Why people fall for Gernika-Lumo

Worth the trip

  • Museo de la Paz (Peace Museum), a moving three-part exhibit on peace and Guernica's history
  • A ceramic copy of Picasso's painting Guernica, visible in town

A little history

On April 26, 1937, a Nazi squadron bombed Guernica, killing several hundred people — the first massive air raid on civilian populations, immortalized in Picasso's painting Guernica.

Numbers: SpainScore town dataset, derived from INE, AEMET, Mitma and the Catastro. Percentile chips count only the municipalities that report the figure — the "of n" says how many. Region-ranked figures (PISA, surgical waits) compare Spain's 17 comunidades autónomas. A blank means no municipal-level figure is published — not a zero.
